Newborn Photoshoots That Went Hilariously Wrong Thanks To Babies And Their “Little Surprises

Babies are a blessing---well, at least most of the time. These new moms and dads are realizing just how much of a challenge their adorable bundle of joy is going to be. You see, all they wanted was to have a picture-perfect memento to remember the arrival of their little ones. But they ended up with something entirely different.

From pee fountains to poo-stained shirts, here’s a list of the times babies ruined their parents’ Instagram-worthy photoshoots and showed the dirty side of parenting. We’re warning you now. Seeing these might just convince you to buy a lifetime supply of diapers! Better safe than soiled, right?

And That Was When Reality Hit Him

Becoming a father for the first time can make any man emotional. Proud dad Al Ferguson is certainly no exception. You can really see how happy he is carrying his then-four-day-old son Ted in his arms. Well, at least, until reality hit him like a truck.

As he felt a gush of warm liquid drip down his elbows, he knew. The coming years would be filled with smelly dilemmas just like this. Lucky for little Ted, dad is up to that task and simply laughed the incident off afterward. As for the shag carpet that caught the rest of his poo? That’s a task for the washer now.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Like babies, this photo is just a gift that keeps on giving. The more you look at it and bask at the little details, the funnier it gets! Dad is laughing. Mom is worried. But the dog, his face just says it all, doesn’t it?

He probably thought he was simply getting a new playmate when his owners brought their baby girl home. As it turns out, cleaning up after her would be a 24-hour task that leaves little time for play. We don’t doubt he eventually warmed up to his new sister, though, as pups can easily form bonds with humans, even babies.

Wait A Minute...That's Actually Impressive!

Some kids grow up trying to get their father’s approval but end up not getting it. So, we’re happy to see that this little one is already making pop-pops’ proud even at an early age. Just look at the approving grin on this dad’s face. He was really impressed at his newborn’s display of waterworks despite being shocked at first.

We bet he regretted wearing his nice shirt for the photo shoot, though. The good news is that an infant’s pee is actually pretty easy to wash off from clothes. According to the experts at The Bump, a cycle in the washing machine would get the job done.

Oblivious Dad, Disappointed Big Brother

Being the older sibling is fun, but it also comes with a ton of responsibilities. This boy right here is starting to learn just that. While his dad was still oblivious of the mess his new sibling made, he already knew he was bound to clean up after him or her one way or another in the future.

If their mom and dad do things right, the two of them will get along quickly. Many parenting books and blogs emphasize the importance of properly introducing an only child to a newborn sibling. Their natural reaction would be to be jealous or confused. The big brother instincts would kick in later.

Asher’s Ready For Take Off!

When Mark and Shayna Resnick walked into professional photographer Gigi O'Dea’s studio, they’ve already conceptualized the kind of shots they want. Mark, particularly, wanted to showcase his awesome back tattoo along with his then-ten-day-old son Asher. The boy had different ideas, though.

Like a rocket ship, little Asher’s rear end exploded with “fuel” as soon as his mom and dad took off his nappy! It seems like he was just waiting for take-off this entire time. Fortunately, O’Dea was quick to pull the trigger and managed the perfect shot on the left before disaster struck.

Having Kids: Expectation Vs. Reality

Welcoming a new member of the family is always exciting. That excitement sometimes gives first-time moms and dads unrealistic expectations about what raising a child is really like. Sure, there are times when you can capture beautiful moments such as this. But you’d also spend a lot of your time cleaning after your little one.

Pee fountains are sometimes inevitable, you see, especially considering that newborns often need to relieve themselves every three hours or so. Go time comes with no warning, and this couple learned that the hard way! That’s just the risk folks have to take when they go in for a bare skin photoshoot.

The Look On His Face Says It All

While it looks like mom Sarah Sutton has gotten a hang of her new duties as a mom, the look on her mister’s face says he still has some adjusting left to do. Realizing the nasty surprise his child has unloaded on his hair, you can see his grin slide right off.

Oh well, the couple looks young enough to get more practice in as they raise their cute toddler. Besides, research has shown that dads today are actually much more involved in caring for their children compared to their counterparts 50 years ago. Mr. Sutton would be laughing at mishaps like this in no time.

“I Said, No More Pictures!”

Newborn photoshoots can be stressful for both the kid and their parents. A lot of things can go wrong. And with babies being delicate, they could get agitated from the bright lights and the constant movements. Take this poor infant, for example; he or she’s probably had enough of taking photos and would say so if he could talk.

Unfortunately, it was daddy who had to endure the newborn’s wrath. We could only guess what was going through his head when he got a taste of a warm cup of herbal pee. He need not worry much, though. Accidentally swallowing pee in small amounts is mostly harmless.

He’s One Sharp Shooter

It looks like we have a protege on our hands! If pee-shooting was a legitimate sport, that is. Still, we’re kind of impressed at how well this picture lined up. This little angel’s mom was likely not pleased, though.

Although babies technically ingest their own urine while they’re still in the womb, we reckon continuing to do so after birth isn’t a good thing. Contrary to popular belief, the golden liquid isn’t sterile and contains a bunch of bacteria. Here’s to hoping this guy here didn’t have adverse reactions once the camera was turned off.

“Bless You, Mom”

After nine months of pregnancy, new mom Margaret was excited to wear one of her best outfits again for a newborn photo shoot with her son. And while things initially went well, she got a little rattled when she suddenly sneezed while posing.

And thus, we have this hilarious shot. Babies’ hearing may not be perfect, but this one clearly knew heard the loud “Achoo!” his mom let out so close to his face. We’re just relieved she didn’t accidentally drop the delicate newborn in the process, as some people tend to sneeze with their whole body.

Say... Barf!

The shot was finally set up. Mom’s comfortable. And by some miracle, her newborn son is, too. The photographer prepares to press the shutter while reminding the duo to say cheese. Click. Okay, that one’s a good photo. Click. Oops. It looks like little Tommy’s breakfast just turned into mommy’s snack.

It’s all worth it, though, don’t you think? That first image is as adorable as it gets. And when it’s been beautifully framed and displayed among their home decor, tasting barf in the middle of the shoot would be the furthest memory from mom’s mind.

Christmas Shoot Gone Wrong

Many families like taking photos to use as Christmas cards for when the holidays come ringing in. We already know which of these shots didn’t make it on that year’s greeting cards. It still made it onto the Internet, though, and brought laughter to those who saw it posted on Imgur.

Barf or not, this photo set is definitely the kind of photo siblings recreate 20 years later. Sure, the little girl might have cried upon seeing how her brother ruined her favorite clothes with barf. But these are the days she’d miss when the little boy is all grown up.

One More For The Road

Apparently, this boy spent much of the shoot pooping. It’s fortunate that the photographer, Dalia Drulia, knew just how to capture the moments in between to come up with an incredible set of photos for the family. This was one of the last ones she took during the session.

It looks like the little guy wasn’t finished answering Mother Nature’s call and did one last number one for the road. Pee fountain edited out, though, we think this could have been such a great photo to display on his baby book.

Wonder What This Little Guy Had For Lunch

Ah, who doesn’t love the beach? There’s always plenty to do and explore, especially for young kids. And with the myriad food stands that often line up seaside tourist areas, there’s probably a lot of tasty snacks to be had, too.

That last perk seems to have backfired in this case, though. As it appears, Jimmy had too much to eat during the outing and ended up forgetting all the potty training he’s been taught. To make things worse, his lack of swimming trunks made it so that his dad’s back fell victim to his smelly accident.

“No, You Take Him!”

We can already imagine how this scene might have played out in real life. With the mess the newborn made, his mom and dad were likely pointing fingers at who should clean up after. All this while the little one watches with an adorable smirk on his face, oblivious to the commotion he caused.

No shame in that, though! Looking after a newborn is sometimes more tiring than working a nine-to-five job, especially since hiring a nanny costs a lot of money. There are times when it feels like you’re spending all your time cleaning mess after mess. But it’s all worth it when your child’s face light up.

At Least They Got A Good One

By now, you’ve probably noticed how pee and poo have become an inevitable part of every newborn photo shoot. You can’t blame babies for being unable to control their bladder and bowels! With that said, we can’t but respect every professional photographer who takes on such challenging sessions, day in and day out.

Of course, patient dads like our friend here in black deserve some praise, too. After all, he would be the one who would end up smelling like poo for the rest of the day. Hey, at least they got at least one good image before the little angel spoiled (or soiled) things.

Streaks Of Protest

Babies can’t talk yet, but they still find ways to convey what they feel and even make a statement out of it. Take this newborn infant, for example. We guess he finally got fed up after his folks ignored his cries for the shoot to end.

Seemingly channeling the rock gods (peep that hand horns sign he’s doing!) to help him rebel and protest. And it looks like they sent him help in the form of poo. It was pretty effective, though, and it probably bought a couple of minutes of rest as his mom changes out of her excrement streaked shirt.

He Baptized Himself

Being baptized is a form of initiation many babies would have to go through if they grow up in a Christian household. It’s just that some of them can’t wait long enough for a pastor or priest to do it. Case in point is this newborn who “christened” himself with ammonia-laced water.

Unfortunately, we’re pretty sure no church would recognize this one as a legitimate baptism. He’d most likely still have to wear that frilly christening dress, as per tradition, and pose for even more photos during the religious event.

It’s A Multi-Generational Dilemma

It’s no secret that people today don’t parent their children the same way as those who came before them. That doesn’t mean that parents across multiple generations can’t relate to the same problems, though. As you can see, both mom and grandma know this poopy dilemma all too well.

Luckily, they have each other to learn from as they raise little Knox and teach him the ways of the world (and the toilet). There shouldn’t be any rush, though, as different babies become ready for potty training at different ages. Some start as young as 18 months, while some don’t until their third birthday.

The Look Of Relief

Babies sometimes suffer from gastrointestinal issues that make them irritable and fussy. These tummy troubles choose no place or time. So yes, not even your much-anticipated family photoshoot is exempt! That’s what this dad found out when his child ended up making a mess on set.

There are some silver linings to this situation, though. For one, he saved a shirt from total ruin by choosing to do the shoot topless. Of course, he could also console himself with the precious look of relief on his little one’s face afterward. That big smile can definitely chase the blues away!

“What Are You Looking At?”

Now, this is what makes being a photographer fun! Sure, specializing in newborn and/or family photography comes with its fair share of setbacks. Still, rare moments like this make it all worth the hard work. Babies are simply little machines filled with surprises, aren’t they?

Seeing the look on everybody’s face, you’d know for sure that this was a truly candid shot. Mom’s embarrassed. Dad’s amused. And their little one...well, it looks like he doesn’t appreciate this private moment being captured by the camera. His expression even seems like he’s asking the photographer, “What are you looking at?”.

He’s So Good, He Can Do It With His Eyes Closed

For the first couple of months of their lives, all babies do is eat, sleep, and occasionally put on a water show. This one even got so good at it that he can do it with his eyes closed! Lucky for him, the photographer was amused by his shenanigans that they featured their photo on their blog.

If you’re wondering why newborns can’t seem to stop peeing, it’s because their bladder is still tiny and needs to be emptied more frequently. Of course, this phase will pass as they develop more. Next thing you know, you’d be saving money on diapers as babies learn the art of bladder control.

Poop Or Pee? That Is The Question

With no smear or fountains, it’s pretty hard to tell which type of body waste this newborn had in store for his mom and dad. Whatever it ended up being, we bet the couple wasn’t pleased at all when they found out. After all, it’s a lose-lose situation either way, especially for their clothes.

Urine can bleach the color out of those black shirts. Poop, meanwhile, can leave bright brown or yellow streaks against the dark fabric. Starting to sense a pattern here? Maybe someone should start a trend where babies keep their nappies on during the shoot to avoid oopsies like this one.

Mom’s Just Glad It Wasn’t Her Turn This Time

It’s usually the moms who spend the most time looking after a newborn. And while it’s a fulfilling responsibility, it also comes with a lot of cleaning and washing pee or poo off of various surfaces in the home. With that said, this mom looks pretty relieved to be off the hook this time.

Can you blame her? She made sure she looked her best for this shoot and is determined not to let those efforts go to waste. Besides, with a ring that beautiful on her finger, holding fecal matter was probably the last thing she wanted to do.

Capturing The Definitive Moment

This perfectly timed capture is the work of photographer James Schokman, who also shared the funny story behind the image. Apparently, he noticed that the newborn happened to poo on their dad during the shoot. What he didn’t realize, though, was he managed to catch “the definitive moment” right then and there, too.

But while funny, this image had us a bit worried. Similar to the previous babies we’ve seen, this cutie appears to excrete liquid poo, which can be a symptom of diarrhea. When left unchecked, this condition would lead to an infant losing weight or becoming dehydrated.

Behind The Scenes Of Every Newborn Shoot Ever

By now, you’ve probably gotten a pretty good idea of what the set of a newborn photoshoot is like. Here’s another image that’ll paint you a better picture of the behind-the-scenes. A crying infant, urine on the floor, and a ruined lace dress. These are the things you can expect.

It doesn’t always have to be this stressful, though. If you’re planning to book a session for your newborn, make sure that your little one comes in with a full belly. That way, they’d be asleep and calm for most of the shoot. Experts say playing white noise and doing it in a warm room also helps.

“Oops...Sorry, Dad”

Here’s another case where we can’t tell for certain whether the culprit is pee or poo. So, let’s focus on the hilariously apologetic look on this little one’s face instead! The poor guy really seems sorry for ruining his dad’s shirt. That’s not the only thing people noticed when this photo was shared online, though.

The infant seems to have a sort of orange tint. A quick search says that this might be caused by something called carotenemia. Simply put, when a newborn or their breastfeeding mother eats a diet filled with carrots, yams, pumpkins, and the like, the high carotene content develops into a slight change in skin color.

Cover One End, It Comes Out The Other!

Learning from those who came before her, this mom probably decided to go against the norm and let her kid wear a diaper for the shoot. But covering one end only led the bodily fluids to come out of the other. It seems like there’s no winning in this situation.

Seeing her nonchalant reaction, we suspect she’s faced this mess many times before. She’s probably done laundry loads filled with quilts and blankets covered in her little one’s puke. That’s just the woes that come with a little thing called gastro-oesophageal reflux.

Dad’s Too Sleepy To Notice

If you thought exam week was the most sleep-deprived you’ve ever been in your life, wait until you have kids. According to a Sleep Junkie survey, most new moms and dads only get around five to six hours of sleep each night. That accounts for a staggering loss of 109 minutes of snooze time!

So, can you really blame this tired dad for not noticing his little one’s shenanigans? Having a baby is certainly not a walk in the park. The only ones who win are the babies, who get all the sleep their dads lose. On average, newborns spend 14 to 17 hours a day asleep.

Parenting Is Just A Game Of Catch

As it turns out, being a parent is just one long game of catch where the ball is pee, poo, and barf. Babies release, moms and dad catch whatever that falls out. And to make things all the more challenging, the game is played 24/7 wherever you and your child are.

That means being prepared at all times. Taking your kid to the park or a local restaurant? You can’t leave home without a trusty bag full of supplies! That is unless you want to make the same mistake this mom did, having to hold vomit in her hands in the absences of a bib.

He Tried To Be Coy About It

Look at this cutie trying to be sneaky! It seems like he’s playing coy about the little oopsie he just had while on set. If he could talk, he’d probably ask the photographer, “What do you mean it’s not raining?” after he got caught in the act.

The little guy’s probably trying hard to make sure his mom got her money’s worth out of the photo session. After all, hiring a newborn photographer isn’t cheap. According to Fash, people can expect to pay around $200 per hour for the service.

They Both Knew What Was Coming Next

If you do things right, you can form a bond with your newborn child pretty quickly. You might even get to the point where the two of you are so connected you can tell when they’re happy or upset...or about to throw up. And that’s a skill parenting books can’t teach you.

This duo certainly looks like they’re bonded enough to anticipate something like this would happen that day. But it seems like dad was still caught off guard when the thing they feared finally came. So, when the shutter clicked, it was too late for him to get out of the splash zone.

Trouble Starts When The Diaper Comes Off

We’ve seen this plenty of times, and yet images like this are still entertaining. Hoping to have the perfect photo keepsake for a fleeting time in their child’s life, moms would take on the risk even knowing that taking off their newborn’s nappy always leads to this kind of trouble.

And she’s paying the price as she’s hit right in the face by her little one’s pee fountain. Hopefully, she was able to get the urine out with water right away. Getting urine in your eye sometimes leads to infections and a trip to the doctor if things get worse.

Overwhelmed With Love

It’s no secret that babies love being cuddled. But there are times when too much love can overwhelm them, as proven by this cutie. It probably doesn’t help that he’s being photographed by a total stranger, too. In his head, he’s probably thinking, “Stop it, guys, you’re embarrassing me!”.

If you notice your kid rejecting your affection in a similar way, don’t worry. They’re likely doing that as a way to convey their independence. And having short attention spans, your toddler’s probably just distracted by various other factors to focus on cuddle time.

Oh, The Joys Of Having Children!

Raising one kid is tough enough. Imagine raising three and then hearing them cry all at once. Sounds like a nightmare? Now, imagine that they’re doing it in the middle of a family shoot you’ve been planning for weeks. It would take a lot of strength to avoid joining the kids in breaking down.

And it really seems that this kids’ mom put a ton of effort into this almost-perfect photo. They’re all dressed to impress. The boys even had their hair in adorable little faux hawks! Nothing beats the irony of how the siblings spell out the word joy, though, while they’re giving their mother a lot of grief.

Everything Is Food

Babies and toddlers just love putting everything they come across into their mouths, huh? From their own fingers to tree trunks, nothing is safe from a child who’s mouthing or teething. This little lady certainly didn’t pass up the opportunity to lick this tree.

Believe it or not, this is all normal, though. When you notice a toddler doing this, it’s probably because their teeth are about to come through or are trying to soothe themself by sucking onto something. In some cases, it all boils down to the fact that babies are often hungry and up for a bite or two.

Not Quite A Newborn Anymore

There’s no shame in using Pinterest to look for inspiration for your own kid’s photo shoot. It’s just that sometimes, a concept that worked perfectly for one child would fail when copied for another. Case in point is this couple struggling to hold their healthy baby to stay true to their Pin-spiration.

It appears that their reference photo is that of a newborn, so it makes sense that their toddler’s final shots didn’t look the same. He’s simply too big for the same pose to work, but his mom and dad still insisted on pushing through.

Pinterest Expectations Vs. Reality

Here’s another case of Pinterest expectations not being met. When the couple came upon the black and white shot, they instantly knew they wanted a similar one with their new bundle of joy. As it turns out, getting a shot that’s just as adorable would be a tall order.

Perhaps they picked a bad day because their little one is simply refusing to cooperate. It seems like the couple was satisfied with the result they got, though, seeing how they posted it to share with the Internet. Tired of coaxing, they probably stopped the shoot mid-way and said, “Eh, close enough.” and called it a day.

The Grass Was A Bad Idea

Newborns are extra sensitive compared to grown children. It’s easy for them to get irritated and cry as a response to discomfort. So, it was probably not the best idea to have one lying on the lawn for a photoshoot. Contact with grass can lead to rashes, especially if your kid suffers from eczema.

No wonder this poor babe is crying! He or she could probably feel the blades of grass poking through the cloth. If that’s the case, then this couple is bound to have a sleepless night as their little one deals with the consequences of a bad photoshoot concept.

There’s No Kissing On His Watch!

It’s older children who often voice out their disapproval about mom and dad showing affection to each other. But it seems like this little kiss police right here is starting his watch early. He’s already busy making sure that no locking of lips will happen during his watch.

He might want to rethink his rules, though. If he carries on this way, it’ll backfire in the long run. One of these days, he’ll realize that he’d have to be more lenient if he wants that little sister he’s been wishing for to finally come.
